Fox has already set a February 14, 2019 release date for the film; no word if that will have to change given the new news.

Deadpool 2, meanwhile, has moved forward to May 18, and thus will be with us two weeks earlier. However, one industry analyst is going out on a limb to say that there are some very good reasons for the change toDeadpool 2's release date.

Apart from announcing plans to develop a Kitty Pryde film with Deadpool director Tim Miller, The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that the studio has altered its release dates for three upcoming films: Deadpool 2, New Mutants and Gambit. That being said, Fox's X-Men franchise would benefit greatly from a Kitty Pryde film. The news comes after Deadline reported that director Gore Verbinski pulled out of the long-in-the-works film due to reported scheduling conflicts, thus putting the fate of the slow-moving project in question for fans once again. Additionally, New Mutants was pushed to 2019 while Deadpool 2 has moved up a couple of weeks. The first trailer for New Mutants arrived previous year, and Josh Boone's horror laced movie looked like a home run. Of course, Verbinski is just the latest director to leave the project stranded, following Rupert Wyatt and Doug Liman in 2015 and 2016, respectively, so this doesn't necessarily reflect that poorly on him.

You're in less luck if you had your eye on The New Mutants or Gambit. He just might be able to pull this off, and he's also been looking to get behind the camera, developing potential directorial debuts such as Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and The Son. 20th Century Fox didn't want its two movies competing against one another. Perhaps this merger with Disney can't come soon enough.
