Volkswagen Jetta squares up geometric new look in Detroit

Plus the 2019 Jetta is the first Volkswagen in the U.S.to offer an available 400-watt BeatsAudio system. The new Jetta rolls up to US VW dealers' lots in just a few months (the second quarter of 2018) starting at $18,545, which the company points out is about $100 less than the outgoing model.

Volkswagen's core autos division increased vehicle sales to a new record previous year, as rising demand for VW brand models in the Americas and the key Chinese market offset a decline in western Europe. In this year's North American International Auto Show, the C-segment contender jumps from sketch to reality with the debut of the seventh-generation model. We'll know more details when VW does their full reveal at 10:05 am ET on Monday, January 15th. A fast-sloping roof line creates a sportier, coupe-like profile, but it't not as coupe-like as other four-door coupes. LED lighting is now standard across the lineup, and SEL and SEL Premium trims get Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit display.

Driver-assistance features are plentiful, including standard rearview camera. They also boast that the center console box, with a volume of five liters, is large enough to fit a standard iPad.

Under the hood, there's a 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged, direct-injection engine. Available features include forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking (Front Assist); blindspot monitor with rear traffic alert; adaptive cruise control, upgraded for use in stop and go traffic; high-beam control (Light Assist); and lane departure warning (Lane Assist), which actively helps steer the auto back into its lane in the event of drift. Front-wheel drive is standard, as is a six-speed transmission; an eight-speed automatic is optional on the base Jetta, but standard on higher-level trims. Automatic transmission models come standard with a stop/start system to boost fuel efficiency. Our Jetta is a unique design different from the. General Motors has attempted - with limited success - to draw in those customers with its own diesel Chevrolet Cruze.


Sales of the VW brand, which is pushing a turnaround plan to revive profits, may continue to outpace rivals, according to industry forecaster IHS Markit.

Volkswagen said Sunday that its namesake brand sold more vehicles worldwide in 2017 than ever before, a sign it is recovering from a bruising emissions-cheating scandal three years ago.
