Traffic restrictions to be in place for India-ASEAN summit

Alounkeo Kittikhoum, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office, Lao People's Democratic Republic said that the country hopes that India can help the ASEAN countries in improving agricultural productivity, enhancing farmers' income and sharing of farm technology.

In 2017, there were a number of new developments in the process of building CoC, including the ASEAN and China's adoption of the COC Framework and the declaration of the two sides' leaders announcing the initialization of COC negotiations [1].

The agreement is apparently yet another move by India to expand its maritime connectivity with the ASEAN nations in response to China's hegemonic aspirations in the region and its controversial Belt-and-Road Initiative.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold separate bilateral meetings with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, President of Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte and State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi today.

Showcasing Odisha as a rapidly evolving manufacturing hub and an investment destination of choice for global investors, a high-level state delegation participated in the ASEAN-India Business and Investment Meet organized in New Delhi.

Jaitley said that trade with Asean countries was of great importance to India as "Look East Policy" was one of the essential pillars of Indian foreign policy.

On Thursday, there will be bilateral meetings with the premiers of Thailand Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Singapore's Lee Hsien Loong, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah and President of Indonesia Joko Widodo.

India will be one of the three largest economies in the world over the next 25 years as it had already demonstrated its capacity to grow even during adversity, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Tuesday.

"It has become more globally integrated", he said.

Plans to consolidate India-Asean ties come as China stakes its claims to larger sections of the South China Sea bringing it in dispute with many South-East Asian nations.

The Republic is now the ASEAN chair for 2018.

The ASEAN country leaders will attend the Republic Day parade on January 26.
