Spurs have been renewing the contracts of their star players in recent years, and whilst concerns linger of Toby Alderweireld's future, Tottenham appear to be pressing ahead with plans to tie other players down to new deals.

"Until today, now, nobody is close to arriving in this transfer window".

Eriksen, 25, has been a star for Tottenham ever since his 2013 move from Ajax, notching 36 goals and 44 assists in the Premier League during his time with Spurs.

The 55-year-old also confirmed Spurs will consider signing new players this month for manager Mauricio Pochettino, although he concedes the mid-season transfer window is hard to navigate. "Maybe in the last five minutes since we came in here, who knows", he added, prompting laughter among the journalists. But before the press conference, nothing is close.

Dele Alli remains Spurs' only January signing under Pochettino and he was immediately loaned back to MK Dons for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. I think we are working and are awake in the market. If something is available on terms we can take, of course we'll do it. "Personally, I never look next to me at what another team is doing". "There are a lot of rumours in the media". The manager believes that opportunities to make shrewd January signings are limited.

"You know better than me that if you want to sign players to help you, there must be an opportunity and it's hard to find this opportunity", Pochettino said.

"Or it's the case, like Liverpool and Barcelona, there is a lot of money and you can not stop the player, like Coutinho or Van Dijk".

"That is the situation of this transfer window and that is why it is always hard".
