Bayern Munich went 14 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table after beating Bayer Leverkusen in the first game following the winter break. Both Ribery and Bayern's other veteran winger Arjen Robben, 34, are out of contract in June and the pair hope to be offered extensions in the coming weeks.

"My aim is to stay at Bayern Munich for as long as possible", said Ribery. "It's always nice to score", he added after his first league goal of the season.

The win for Bayern however highlighted a serious issue for Leverkusen as they seemed to have no plan-b. However, Jupp Heynckes came out and told the media that Bayern would not be selling any players during the transfer window.

Heynckes, who led Bayern to the treble in his last stint in 2013, returned for his fourth spell in charge after Carlo Ancelotti was sacked in September for the side's lackluster start.

Goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who will again deputise for the injured Manuel Neuer, added: "They're unsafe opponents who break forward quickly".

With Mats Hummels out with a groin injury, Niklas Suele partnered Jerome Boateng at centre-back.

In the 32nd minute, Javi Martinez sent the Bavarians ahead after powering home a left-footed shot from six-yards out following a corner, 0-1.

Pacey Kingston-born winger Bailey is friends with Jamaica sprint legend Bolt, who last weekend revealed that he wants to launch his football career with a trial at Borussia Dortmund in March.

The 26-year-old striker has scored 28 goals for Hoffenheim since joining from Dutch side Heerenveen in 2015, this includes an impressive nine goals in 16 top-flight matches this season. Ribery then made sure of the three points on 59 minutes in emphatic style. Arturo Vidal worked out two opportunities in the opening period but Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno was on guard twice to maintain parity.

However Rodriguez, on loan from Real Madrid, showed his class by cooly slotting home a free-kick on the edge of the area after being fouled just outside the box.
