Both Burkhead and Gillislee are out with knee injuries.

Burkhead (knee) is not expected to play in Saturday's tilt against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The good news for the Patriots is that according to Schefter, last year's Super Bowl hero James White is expected to return from an ankle injury and play versus Tennessee. Although both backs practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, they are listed as questionable on the injury report. A final decision on Burkhead's status will likely be revealed when the Patriots release their inactives prior to the game.

Burkhead, who injured his knee during the December 17 game against the Steelers and hasn't played since, has 518 yards from scrimmage and eight TDs this season.

The 27-year-old, who rushed for 264 yards and five touchdowns this season, told reporters Thursday that he was "excited" about the prospect of returning against the Titans.

In the wake of all the recent injuries, Dion Lewis has stepped up as the workhorse of the Patriots backfield.

The other six inactive Titans are healthy scratches: outside linebacker Josh Carraway, defensive end David King, guard Corey Levin, running back Khalfani Muhammad, cornerback Curtis Riley, and quarterback Brandon Weeden.
