Pakistan take on Afghanistan in U19 World Cup opener

The 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four teams each.

It's the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Sixteen teams will compete in the tournament, with the 10 test-tier nations joined by six qualifiers.

With this win, India climbed to the top of their group, followed by Pakistan.

The top two sides from each group will advance to the Super League while the remaining eight teams will figure in the plate championship.

This will be the 12th edition of the tournament and the third on New Zealand soil. In other matches on the opening day to be played here, Bangladesh take on Namibia and Papua New Guinea play Zimbabwe.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the Super League will be among the 20 matches to be broadcast live. The final will be played on February 3 at Mount Maunganui. The ICC U19 World Cup 2018 will be available on Star Sports Network.

Legendary cricketer and India's Uner-19 coach Rahul Dravid, who turned 45 today on January 11, shared a special message for the cricket fans across the globe and urged the Indian fans to come out in the support of his trainees.

Ireland captain Harry Tector: "The guys are obviously delighted to be going to the U19 World Cup. We tried to get used to the New Zealand's environment and we are fully prepared", Tariq Stanikzai member of the national team said.
