Former Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore is going back to school to join the SC football team as a member of Will Muschamp's staff. Krantz will work with special teams and linebackers. "I've kept in contact with so many people around the university - in particular coach Muschamp". "He has a coordinator's mentality and is an outstanding young coach". Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp also added the NCAA-approved 10th assistant coach by promoting Kyle Krantz. During the summer of 2011, he worked as an offensive quality control volunteer at Northwestern.

Muschamp initially signed a five-year deal that paid out $3 million annually, according to The State, but he earned a sizable raise following a strong showing during his second season on the job.

Krantz is married to the former Brittany Hauck. His career was cut short by two serious knee injuries in his sophomore and junior years. Despite his limited time on the field, he set the school record for career rushing touchdowns with 38, while ranking sixth in school history with 2,677 career rushing yards.

"No one will relate to our players about dealing with success and facing adversity more than Marcus. He will be a great addition to our program".

Though the San Francisco 49ers drafted Lattimore in the fourth round of the 2013 draft, he never appeared in a regular-season game.

Coming off a solid season, SC football coach Will Muschamp received a new six-year contract that includes a salary of $4.2 million in the first year that increases annually until it reaches $5.2 million in 2023, The Post and Courier reports.

He is married to the former Miranda Bailey.
