The Republican governor and his wife released a statement late on Wednesday after St Louis television station KMOV reported that he had a sexual relationship with his former hairdresser in 2015.

Missouri Governor Eric Greitens is facing calls for resignation. He added, "I think it's as bad as it gets".

The Circuit Attorney is the chief prosecutor for state-level crimes committed in St. Louis. They must know that the Office of the Circuit Attorney will hold public officials accountable in the same manner as any other resident of our city.

The FBI's St. Louis office did not immediately respond TPM's request for comment.

The investigation comes after a report from KMOV in which Greitens' admitted to having an extramarital affair "a few years ago".

"The governor has now seen the TV report that ran tonight". He has barely hidden his higher political ambitions and reserved the web address ericgreitensforpresident.com years ago. "The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these nearly three-year-ago events are a lie". Not surprisingly, Greitens' fellow Missouri lawmakers, who he's frequently derided as "career politicians", show little inclination to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"The seriousness of this allegation and the implications it will have on the integrity of our state government are deeply disturbing", said the letter, written by state Senator Doug Libla. A bipartisan group of state lawmakers asked the attorney general to investigate as well. An attorney for the ex-husband said he has been interviewed multiple times by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The affair allegedly took place in 2015.

Greitens, the first Jewish governor of Missouri, is slated to speak at the RJC's annual convention next month in Las Vegas. "And that's the objective of my contacting the Attorney General's office on this". "I feel like I didn't even know. So we'll see how the evidence leads us". "It never happened", Bennett said in a statement on the governor's behalf.

"I knew he was being sexual, and I still let him", she said.

Eric Greitens, the 43-year-old governor of Missouri, confirmed he had cheated before he was elected to office in 2016. "This was a deeply personal mistake. Eric took responsibility, and we dealt with this together honestly and privately", the statement said. With an allegation that cuts to the core of the governor's integrity, Senator Gary Romine (R-Farmington) called for an investigation to begin as soon as possible. This is a three-year-old personal matter that presents no matters of public or legal interest. He says the facts "will prove that fully". "As we learned today, these false allegations are being advanced by political adversaries". Greitens denied claims that he took nude photos of her and threatened to release them publicly if she disclosed the relationship.

Senate Democratic leaders Gina Walsh and Kiki Curls said "violence and threats against women are never acceptable" and that the allegations must be investigated.

Greitens acknowledged being "unfaithful" in his marriage but denied taking any naked photos and blackmailing the woman to stay quiet. "There was no payment of any money". The claim that this almost three-year old story has generated or should generate law enforcement interest is completely false.
