Dr Jackson said the US President, who has recently faced a swirl of speculation about his mental fitness, had himself requested a cognitive test in which he performed "exceedingly well".

The test administered, Jackson noted, was the widely used Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a brief written and oral examination covering basic recall exercises, language questions, abstraction and more.

"I had given the President some medication, specifically some Sudafed, the days previous and that dried up his secretions more than I meant to and that precipitated", Jackson said.

Last week a group of mental health professionals sent an urgent public letter to the president's doctor requesting he test Trump's cognitive abilities.

The doctor said: "If he had some kind of mental cognitive issue he would not have got 30 out of 30 on the test".

The results of Donald Trump's first presidential physical were revealed on Tuesday during a White House press briefing and, for the most part, the Commander in Chief received a clean bill of health. "He's more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part, but we're going to do both".

Trump is known to have indulged in McDonald's and other fast food on the campaign trail - but Jackson said he has changed his habits since becoming president. Jackson said he didn't think Trump needed a cognitive assessment after interacting with him daily over the past year.

Overall, the president is in excellent health and is likely to remain healthy throughout his presidency. Trump now weighs 239 pounds, which at 6-foot-3 puts him just under the technical definition of obese under the body mass index, or BMI. "I would say the answer to your question is he has incredibly good genes, and it's the way God made him". "10 to 15 pounds". "I found no reason whatsoever to think the president has any issues whatsoever with his thought process". Dr Jackson said he could make no clinical findings in this area and perhaps it was due to a dry mouth brought on by medication the president had taken.

"All clinical data indicates that the President is now very healthy, and that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency", he continued.

James Gunn tweeted "Trump's medical exam says he's 6'3" and 239 pounds.

Jackson said Trump encouraged him to speak with reporters about the physical, and to take every question they had.

Jackson has cared for three presidents since joining the White House medical unit in 2006.

"He has a history of elevated cholesterol, and is now on a low dose of Crestor".

The president's yearly physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which took place on Friday, is a routine practice.
