The possibility of a Moscow show was also earlier fueled by current lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who reportedly asked UFC chief White to organize a bout with the undefeated Nurmagomedov in Russian Federation last summer.

Fans and media alike specualted whether that would be a interim title fight against Tony Ferguson, or if Nurmagomedov would just be able to skip straight to an undisputed title fight with Conor McGregor.

Although it's not clear if Nurmagomedov will take part in the planned Moscow event, the 29-year-old Dagestan native hinted at "big news" to come on his Instagram page two days ago.

However, the UFC are keen to book McGregor against interim champion Tony Ferguson, if and when the Irishman eventually returns to the Octagon.

"Most likely, this event is going to be connected with us", Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov told RT.com.

Earlier this week it emerged that Nurmagomedov wasinterested in taking on the former champion Eddie Alvarez in the event that a matchup with Ferguson or McGregor was not booked but now, his manager Ali Abdelaziz has let the world know that his client is putting his foot down. UFC president Dana White spoke recently about wanting to get a lightweight title fight by March.

"Khabib's next fight, we're not fighting for no damn interim belt". We appreciate everything the UFC has done for us, but it's time for a real belt. His camp mentioned the desire to go into Nurmagomedov's country and defeat him in front of his home crowd. He has threatened to strip McGregor of his belt for inactivity and making the Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov fight for the unified belt. Although the timetable would lay out perfectly if Nurmagomedov could get past the ever-dangerous Tony Ferguson.
