Two Boeing 787 Dreamliner's each with capacity of 234 passengers (30 premier world and 204 economy class) with a crew of four pilots and 12 attendants will ply the route.

The airline's Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Mikosz on Thursday announced that a roundtrip Economy Class ticket will go for Sh89,000. "We are honored to contribute to the economic growth of Kenya and East Africa".

A return flight will then leave NY at 12.25 pm the same day and touch the ground in Nairobi at 10.55 am the following day.

"We are excited to announce the opening of ticket sales for the only non-stop daily flight from Nairobi to the U.S.", said KQ chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz.

Kenya Airways becomes the first airline in the region to offer direct flights to the United States.

The flight is scheduled to take 15 hours, a departure from the previous flight time of 22 hours including lengthy layovers passengers from JKIA had to cope with using connecting flights.

Flight time between Nairobi and NY will be reduced from over 22 hours to 15 hours. From New-York it will depart at 12:25 landing at JKIA at 10:55 the following day.

The airline was in September granted approval to operate flights in the US by the department of transportation while JKIA was earlier in 2017 granted a Category One status by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after the airport upgraded its security features. This development will most likely enhance trade, tourism and general customer satisfaction. It is the largest tourist source market, and in the period to October 2017 accounted for close to 100 000 tourists to Kenya.

Kenya Airways already serves Africa, Europe, Middle-East, Indian sub-continent and Asia.

It is anticipated that the new form of easier travel to the U.S. will directly impact Kenya's economy through direct and indirect employment, as well as boosting trade between the two nations.

The direct flight to the United States from Kenya is not the cheapest but the most convenient alternative to travel to the leading Western hub.
