The sheriff's office says the "murder-for-hire" became a case of "mistaken identity" and that the victim was not the intended target.

The body of Janice Marie Zengotita-Torres was found in Ormond Beach Monday, Jan. 8 after she was reported missing. Fox 35 Orlando reported that Torres was abducted while she was driving home from her office on 7 January.

Ramos-Rivera and Montes kept on utilizing Zengotita-Torres' cards after they dumped her body, provoking experts to stake out ATMs in the zone.

Ramos beat the woman until she passed out, Gibson said, and she eventually died of suffocation from the garbage bags.

Three people were taken into custody Friday in connection with the abduction and murder of a 42-year-old Florida woman, officials said.

Gibson said that's when Ramos and Rivera realized they had abducted the wrong person, but made a decision to continue with their plan.

According to a report in the ABC News, Alexis Ramos-Rivera, 22, and his girlfriend Glorianmarie Quinones-Montes were supposedly hired by Ishnar Lopez Ramos, 35, to kill a woman who was in a relationship with another man, Ramos's romantic rival.

The target worked at the same store as Zengotita-Torres, and she reportedly bore a close resemblance to her.

Analysts trust they did in the end acknowledge they'd grabbed the wrong individual yet "proceeded with their arrangement of murder and tied the casualty with zip ties, and after that her head in channel tape and junk sacks", Gibson said.

"I don't say that lightly, that this woman lost her life for no reason. This mother, this wife, this daughter - for no reason, at all", Gibson said.

Ramos was arrested Thursday night while using Zengotita-Torres' card to withdraw cash from an ATM in the area, according to authorities. However, at some point during the attack, they discovered that they had picked up the wrong person but still chose to move forward with the murder.

He said when Zengotita-Torres tried to fight back she was beaten unconscious.

The three suspects are each facing first-degree murder charges.

Following a series of transactions, police nabbed Lopez-Ramos, who led them to the other two suspects in the case.

Florida police say three suspects are in jail and an innocent woman is dead following a botched murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by a scorned lover.
