The first official image of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in Venom was released by Sony today, and with it now comes a new hint that the Life Foundation will possibly be the main villains in the film.

Tom plays the role of Eddie Brock/Venom in the movie.

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad) and written by Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain, Jumanji) & Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), the Venom film is set for an October 5, 2018 release date. There, he encounters the Life Foundation, a shadowy corporate survivalist group that's so convinced that civilization will end in a nuclear holocaust that it begins planning a future utopian society for its wealthy clients.

So how exactly does The Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?

If that's the case, then Phage, Agony, Scream, Riot and Lasher - the Venom clones from that story-arc - could also be making an appearance. Indeed, the actual Venom look is being kept under tight wraps, which isn't too hard since that character is being created using performance-capture-i.e., Venom will mostly be created digitally later on.

We've had six (!) Spider-Man movies since 2002, and while one might expect such a glut of wall-crawler adventures to lead to audience fatigue, the success of last year's Marvel Cinematic Universe entry Spider-Man: Homecoming ($334 million domestic; $880 million global) suggests otherwise.

What about the allegations your empire is built on?

That second question isn't particularly illuminating on its own, but the other two all but confirm previous reports that Venom is based, at least in part, on Venom: Lethal Protector.

The last question is obscured by Hardy's attractive, sturdy fingers. Regardless, it's kind of neat to see that a Venom movie finally, actually exists.
