LONDON, United Kingdom, Jan 7- Chelsea manager Antonio Conte fired back at José Mourinho on Saturday in the lastest salvo in their ongoing war of words, labelling the Manchester United boss a "little man" and a "fake".

After the Blues were held by Norwich in the third round of the FA Cup, Conte swiftly responded to Mourinho's comments by dismissing him as merely a "little man".

Mourinho's comments about acting like a clown didn't sit well with Conte despite the United boss not name dropping anyone in particular. "I'm ready. I don't know if he's ready".

I celebrated goals running 50 metres, I celebrated goals sliding on my knees, celebrations jumping in the crowd.

Prosecutors had requested a six-month suspended sentence following accusations he failed to report episodes of match-fixing while in charge at Serie B side Siena in 2011.

"I don't know because in my one year and a half I never talk about other coaches or if I did, only to make compliments", he said. But I don't blame him at all. "That never happened to me and will never happen". "I'm not free of that, especially if we score a winning goal in a specific moment".

"I think when you tell something you are to take the responsibility".

The former Paris Saint-Germain ace, 30, was said to have had a row with Antonio Conte after a 3-0 Champions League defeat to Roma at the end of October.

Mourinho claimed he did not need to act like a "clown" to prove his desire to stay at Manchester United, saying his commitment to the club is "total".

Mourinho's jibe had followed a suggestion from Conte earlier on Friday that the Portuguese was suffering from "demenza senile".

"I think we've got to give ourselves a pat on the back, to be honest, we showed great resilience".

"I am ready. I don't think he is ready", the Italian added.

'But I know him very well in the past because in the past he was a little man in many circumstances, he is a little man in the present and for sure he will be a little man in the future.

His former side Chelsea are now breathing down United's neck, attempting to overtake them and possibly drop Mourinho's side out of the Champions League spots.
