Ever since releasing the first Moto Z device, one of the highlights of Motorola's offerings has been Moto Mods.

Moto in its blog post says, "We worked with developers on the moto mods ecosystem in a variety of ways - a crowdfunding campaign with Indiegogo, our Accelerator Program and distribution of our Moto Mod Development Kits (MDK) to interested dev teams".

At CES 2018, Lenovo took the wraps off two new Motorola Moto Mods, accessory modules that magnetically attach to Motorola Z phones like the Moto Z2 Force and Z2 Play. As consumers become increasingly more health conscious the Vital Moto Mod saves time and money, streamlining the vitals measurement process and effectively replacing five discreet devices with one.

What makes this Moto Mod even better is the fact that you can actually tilt the screen up to 60 degrees, making it possible to type at nearly any angle. It can measure your heart rate, respiratory rate, Pulse Ox, core body temperature as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure from your finger. Motorola has said that the test can be completed in three minutes to run all five tests further allowing users to do it anytime and anywhere. The Lenovo Vital Moto Mod will be out in April. This Moto Mod is developed by Livermorium who are the grand prize victor of the first Transform the Smartphone Challenge on Indiegogo.

Meanwhile, the success of Livermorium has encouraged Motorola to continue its "Transform the Smartphone Challenge" in 2018 to make more mods. The former is called Slider Keyboard Moto Mod that's developed by Livermorium, whereas, the latter is called Vital Moto Mod that's developed by Lenovo. As the name suggests, the Slider Keyboard Moto Mod brings back the good old physical QWERTY keyboard on your smartphone, and, it also lets the users tilt the screen up to 60-degrees for a better experience. The mod is developed by Moto's parent company, Lenovo.

Instead, Motorola is driving Moto Mod innovation and development from the outside, a strategy that is both smart and cunning.
