Arda Turan joins Basaksehir on loan until 2020

Turan wore the No.7 for two seasons at Barcelona but has moved to Turkey, with Barcelona reserving the right to sell him in any of the transfer windows during his loan spell.

Barcelona, on their official website, announced that Turan will be joining Basaksehir on a two-and-a-half-year loan deal.

It is somewhat surprising to see Barca let Turan leave on loan for such a lengthy period of time, given that he is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and a transfer fee and a permanent departure would be more fitting for the 30-year-old.

Spanish newspaper Sport last week estimated it cost Barca one million euros for each appearance made by Turan, taking into account an annual salary reported to be 8 million euros a year.

Istanbul Basaksehir tops the Super Lig (Turkish League) standings after 17 games, and Turan should boost its prospects of winning the title.

"This is not just a transfer for Basaksehir, but a transfer for Turkey".

Although Turan moved from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona in the summer of 2015, he made his debut in January 2016 due to a Federation Internationale de Football Association transfer ban on the Catalan side.

The fourth-most capped Turkish player will also be hoping to return to his best for the national team after reversing his decision to retire from worldwide football in August.
