Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has lauded his side's decision to sign Ross Barkley from Everton.

The Italian has hailed Ross Barkley as being a "complete player" after the England midfielder completed his move to Stamford Bridge from Everton for £15 million.

Barkley also suffered a hamstring injury in August that required surgery.

"Before his bad injury he was with the national team", said Conte, who guided Italy to the quarter finals of Euro 2016 before being knocked out to Germany on penalties.

However, Conte was in no mood to give anything away when quizzed about Chelsea's remaining plans for the transfer window after the 0-0 FA Cup third round draw with Norwich on Saturday night.

Statistically, he's a great player- the second highest contributor of assists amongst English Premier League players during the last two seasons but he needs to be tactically displined if he's ever going to live up to the "new Michael Ballack" billing he received from former boss Roberto Martinez.

Barkley is now recovering from a long-term injury but Antonio Conte is understood to be keen on integrating him into the Chelsea side as soon as he possibly can. It is a big step and it is a good signing.

"This club will give him that, like it did me and like it did for other players, and it's down to him to go and take it". "He has five months to show he deserves to be at the World Cup". If you are able to work, the team accept your characteristic.

The small fee makes Barkley a low-risk acquisition but that doesn't mean he'll be a guaranteed success at Stamford Bridge.

"It will be very important to know him very well".

Barkley joined Chelsea for a cut-price £15million on Friday as his contract at Goodison Park was due to expire in the summer.

"He's only 24 years old but now it is up to Ross to prove his talents. We must be sure he is into our football (tactics) otherwise it is a problem for me, for him and the rest of our team". "He is a complete player but, at the same time, he is very young".
