1 in Missouri for online bachelor's program by US News & World Report

In the 2018 Online rankings, the school's undergrad program also stood out: it held onto its ranking from past year and was named the No. 2 program in the US, sharing the slot with Florida's Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and trailing the No. 1 school, the Ohio State University.

Recognized for its Honors Program, NCAA Division II athletics, and its pioneering role in online education for more than twenty years, Post University is licensed by the Connecticut Office of Financial and Academic Affairs for Higher Education and accredited by the prestigious New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). These factors were selected in order to weigh how a school's programs are being delivered and their effectiveness at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable amount of time. In addition, according to McAliney, with its dedicated resources for course design, the program captures the best practices in online pedagogy. The Master of Science in Information Technology degree is offered by the college's School of Information.

Petersen, dean of the College of Education, attributes this substantial jump to the head of the online education pack to the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff in the college.


The School of Nursing's online bachelor's degree program (RN-BS), which admitted its first class in 2012-13, was ranked No. 60 in the Best Online Bachelor's Programs rankings.

"Over the course of the last five years, we have been focused on not just growing our online portfolio, but doing so with a commitment to engaging, high-quality learning", Mike Hofherr, vice president and chief information officer, said in the release. "The top programs not only demonstrate strong academics but also create learning environments that are particularly well-suited to remote students".


The methodology for assessing online programs included factors such as student engagement, faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, peer reputation and admissions selectivity. As one of 17 campuses in the University of North Carolina system, Appalachian enrolls about 19,000 students, has a low student-to-faculty ratio and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate majors. Also offered online are the Master of Arts in exceptional child education; Master of Arts in Teaching in exceptional education; Master of Business Administration in general management, health administration and sport management; and the Master of Public Administration.
