YouTube determined its top trending videos based on time spent watching, sharing, commenting, liking and other metrics.

Fittingly, the video's music mashup, created by The Hood Internet, kicks off with "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber, of which the accompanying visual was also YouTube's most popular music video of 2017.

It was forced to adopt additional screening measures last month on its kid-friendly platform, YouTube Kids, after reports showed numerous videos there contained profanity and violence.

"Now, we are applying the lessons we've learned from our work fighting violent extremism content over the past year in order to tackle other problematic content". Heartthrob pop star Ed Sheeran dominated the charts with videos for "Shape of You" (both the official video and Kyle Hanagami Choreography's dance routine) and a Carpool Karaoke guest spot.

- Seven minutes and 16 seconds of incredible table tennis trick shots.

- This 12-year-old singing ventriloquist's incredible performance on "America's Got Talent".

- Lady Gaga's Super Bowl LI halftime performance.

And, if snagging top place wasn't good enough - Mick made it into the list twice, with the original upload of the song coming in at sixth. Some material, like images of animal abuse, are acceptable on the site, likely because they might be posted to draw attention to the issue, but others, like a comment that reads, "Someone shoot Trump", are a no-no.

- This animated short film about a closeted boy who fears being outed by his own heart will melt your heart. It has been viewed nearly 1.1 billion times. With more than 25 million views, its the news outlet's most popular video yet. No surprise here: "Despacito" took the crown. Spotify kicked us off yesterday with custom playlists and more and now YouTube is following up their annual YouTube Rewind video. See the top 10 below.
