David Moyes enjoyed another impressive defensive display from his West Ham side in a goalless draw with Arsenal and is now ready to take the handbrake off.

Having drawn 1-1 at Southampton on Sunday, Wenger conceded that Arsenal lacked sharpness against a side that played one day earlier at Saturday lunchtime - a 1-0 win over Chelsea. We must focus on quality and not the fact we are not ruthless. Admittedly that's mainly because you never know what to expect from Wenger's side. They have enjoyed a couple of famous wins, the best of which featured Paolo Di Canio making Martin Keown look very stupid indeed in October 1999, but they haven't beaten Arsenal since Wenger got annoyed with an exuberant Alan Pardew on the touchline after a Marlon Harewood victor 11 years ago and tend to approach this game in fatalistic mode, always worrying that something's going to go wrong. Our job is to fight, to give everything and see where you finish.

"We have needed them in the three games".

West Ham even came close to grabbing a victor when substitute Javier Hernandez hit the crossbar with a shot in the last minute. "It was 10 against 10 in the final third", Wenger added.

'It was hard because they defended very well too.

"But we believed we could get something, Chelsea was a massive game for us and tonight to do it again, we just couldn't get that goal".

Jack Wilshere impressed on a rare Premier League start (John Walton/PA) Started a Premier League game for the Gunners for the first time in over 18 months, and a strong midfield display could see him retain his place. "They had more physical resources to defend decisively".

"It was another hard game, we've played Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal". Past year we got done here by the so-called bigger teams by three or four so to keep two clean sheets [and get] four points is a great reward. "For a first game, it's a very positive performance".

"There's no update, we're in the same position we were in two weeks ago", he said when asked about contract talks.

"At this moment in time Adrian has got the shirt", Moyes said.
