Collider reports director Ruben Fleischer revealed this new information during a Comic-Con Experience 2017 panel in Sao Paulo, Brazil this weekend.

The actor is in talks with Sony about an undisclosed role in the upcoming Venom film, according to THR. Thankfully, he has a plethora of Venom comic book arcs and issues to draw from. That's a hard enough job to do even before you consider that most of Venom's best comic book arcs involve Peter Parker in some form.

A refresher course: Venom: Lethal Protector was a 1993 limited series by David Michelinie with art by Mark Bagley, Ron Lim, and Sam DeLarosa.

"Venom: Lethal Protector" follows the events of an agreed truce between Venom and Spider-man, with the former moving to San Francisco after the fact.

In the comic, Venom is confronted with the challenge of having to face five other symbiotes namely, Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. The non-MCU Spider-Man spinoff (that may or may not be entirely sans Spider-Man) is already set to star Tom Hardy as the anti-hero, alien symbiote-toting Eddie Brock, alongside Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze. He's one of Marvel's most brutal villains, created when a symbiote bonded with a psychopathic murderer. During their presentation, the duo revealed which comic book storylines the picture - penned by Scott Rosenberg (Pain & Gain), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), and Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) - will bring to the screen. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal are producing.

Venom is set to open in October 2018, and it's now unsure how it may or may not factor into the Sony/Marvel deal that allowed Spider-Man to appear in the Avengers movies.
