Utah State also closed out the season with a 6-6 mark.

NMSU finished the season with two wins to reach bowl eligibility.

The Aggies accepted a bid to the Arizona Bowl where they will face New Mexico State on Friday, Dec. 29, at 3:30 p.m. (MT) at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Ariz.

Utah State: The Aggies were a football-only member of the Sun Belt Conference from 2003-04, and they played New Mexico State both seasons.

"I told my guys, I told my o-line you know lets go make history right now and it was an fantastic feeling to do that", said NMSU QB, Tyler Rogers.

A bowl appearance by New Mexico State would be its first since 1960, when it beat Utah State in the Sun Bowl.

Utah State returns to a bowl for the first time since losing to Akron in the Potato Bowl two years ago. Lower-tier bowl games are typically costly enterprises for schools and New Mexico State isn't in a position to absorb a financial hit. In a odd and remarkable coincidence, NMSU's last bowl game appearance was also versus Utah State in the 1960 Sun Bowl.

"If you stick us too far back east, then it becomes a financial issue with our fans and if you're obligated to buy X number of tickets and we can't sell them to our fans, then it becomes a costly enterprise", New Mexico State chancellor Garrey Carruthers told the station.
