"It (Ram Setu) has become an object of worship only recently", the UPA government's affidavit had said. The promo claims that the structure is not natural but man-made, citing images from a NASA satellite, .

Congress leader Rajiv Shukla said that his party always believed that Ram Setu exists.

Many of you might not be aware of the Adam's bridge or the Ram Setu bridge which now connects Pamban island in India's Tamil Nadu state with Sri Lanka's Mannar island.

Although there is a "sandbar" that connects India and Sri Lanka, and a series of rocks were found on top of the sandbar across the 30 mile long distance, the rocks actually predate the sandbar.

And if the Hindu mythology is to be followed then Lord Rama built the bridge to rescue goddess Sita who was kidnapped by Ravana.

"It came to our knowledge that Ram Setu is man-made and the stones are thousand years old.we welcome this revelation". The project involved dredging in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka, and its alignment cut through the Adam's Bridge, or Ram Setu. It is a 50 km long bridge separating the Gulf of Mannar from the Palk Strait.

The matter went to court, where the ASI in 2007 filed an affidavit saying there was no historical or scientific evidence to establish the existence of Lord Ram, and the Ram Setu was a natural structure.

The claim made in a new show of a USA science channel that the "Ram Setu" is man-made and not natural has reaffirmed the stand of the BJP on the issue, Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said today.

However, the Science Channel promo has said that the rocks are 7,000 years old, which ties up neatly with the time Hinduism expert Devdutt Pattanaik says the events in the Ramayana might have taken place.

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday called the Ram Setu an important part of Indian heritage and said that nobody should meddle with it.
