Recently technology market analyst firm Canalys reported more than 490,000 PlayStation VR's were sold in Q3 2017.

Following the success of the PS4, customers have also been flocking to the PS VR. The nine-month timespan is actually quite precise since the latest Media Create release is related to the week ending on December 3rd, with a total bounty for Nintendo's new console of 2.522.298 units. And 12.2 million copies of the 150 titles released for PlayStation VR have been sold at retailers across the world and through digital downloads on the PlayStation Store.

While Sony hasn't announced any plans for new gaming hardware, it confirmed that it's planning to expand its range of PS4 games.

In the report Sony added, "On the software front, PS4's portfolio will continue to expand with an array of games including "God of War", "Detroit: Become Human" and "Marvel's Spider-Man". On the PlayStation VR front, PlayStation says that over 130 games are now in development and set to be released by 2018. They'll launch by the end of 2018.

The Japanese entertainment and technology conglomerate said that it has sold a total of 70.6 million Playstation 4 consoles as of December 3. "We will continue to work closely with partners to maintain this momentum and remain steadfast in making PS4 the best place to play". And it's also sold almost 200 million games for the console.

The 2 million PlayStation VR units sold also makes the company a real player in virtual reality, an area that Facebook's Oculus, Steam and HTC's Vive and the Samsung Gear VR are trying to carve out. It, too, has had a stellar year. That's pretty impressive considering it was only released in March.
