The new speaker will run on Bixby, Samsung's own proprietary digital assistant. It will sync up with Samsung gadgets, TVs and Galaxy smartphones. According to a report from Bloomberg, the smart speaker will see the light of day in the first quarter of 2018, aiming to build its own ecosystem. However, the sources could not provide more details on the form factor or feature the speaker will bring to your home but they did mention that it will be cheaper than Apple's Home Pod which costs $349 while the Bixby smart speaker could get a price tag of only $200. It plans to make the device available in multiple markets, potentially including the USA, and is weighing a price point around US$200 (RM815), the people said. Samsung is still working on improving the device's ability to conduct voice-based web searches, as per the report. It will also work with the SmartThings service and product network, the company Samsung acquired back in 2014.

Last we heard, Samsung had confirmed that it's working on a Bixby-powered smart speaker, saying that it'll be launched soon.

One prototype version of the Samsung speaker in testing is between the size of Amazon's latest Echo and the HomePod, one of the people said. The report also notes that the speaker will be made available in multiple colors - the prototype unit is in matte black. However, it ditched the idea later on in favor of lights up on top just like the HomePod.

BK Yoon, co-CEO and head of Samsung's consumer electronics business, said Samsung has joined forces with audio giant Harman for making the speaker.
