Sherri Hines, who was in the all-female hip-hop group Mercedes Ladies, says the author raped her in his office in 1983.

What was described to The New York Times by the four women is an alleged pattern of sexual assault and harassment that allegedly ruined careers.

Three women have accused music mogul Russell Simmons of rape in an exclusive new report in the New York Times.

Dixon said she rejected his advances, and told Simmons she recently had a gynecological procedure that prevented her from having sex. However, in 1988 she said Simmons invited her to his home for a party. She was 17 at the time.

Simmons managed Baker in the early 1990s. Once there, she said Simmons ran a bath and pushed her up against a column in the room, groping her.

Lumet said she never told anyone what happened until this fall, when the Harvey Weinstein story was in the news and she confided in a childhood friend. "I didn't sing for nearly a year", she tells the NY Times.

Music journalist Tony Sallie went on a few dates with Simmons and stayed friendly with him. But she said the visit "got really ugly, pretty fast". He pushed himself on her and she blacked out as he raped her, she said, even though she hadn't been drinking that night.

The women who spoke to the Times, though, tell a different story.

Simmons initially denied Khalighi's claims, telling the L.A. Times, "Everything that occurred between Keri and me occurred with her full consent and participation". Once there, Dixon claims Simmons advanced on her, pinned her on his bed and began to kiss her.

In an open letter to then-President-elect Donald Trump in November 2016, Simmons warned Trump that he "cannot wage war against women's rights".

All of the women noted to the Times that they felt powerless both at the time of their assaults and in the years following because of Simmons' power in the music industry. She told the NYT when Simmons agreed to work with her, the label paid more attention to her and her budget increased, but after the assault she said, "I went into oblivion". "These horrific accusations have shocked me to my core and all of my relations have been consensual", Russell said in a statement to E!

He added: "I have enormous respect for the women's movement worldwide and their struggle for respect, dignity, equality and power".

Late last month, HBO said it would edit out any link to Simmons in its "All Def Comedy" show in the wake of an allegation by screenwriter Jenny Lumet, who said Simmons had sex with her more than two decades ago despite her repeated demands that he stop.

Music mogul Russell Simmons stepped down from Def Jam, which he co-founded, following multiple accusations of sexual assault. After a showing her around, she said, he brought her into his bedroom and raped her. One of the women was Drew Dixon-an executive at Def Jam Records.

Additionally, he will "relentlessly fight against any untruthful character assassination that paints me as a man of violence" and says he has "already apologized for the instances of thoughtlessness in my consensual relations". Moore was with a friend at the time and the two left the hotel room. The current allegations sent to me by The New York Times range from the patently untrue to the frivolous and hurtful.

Simmons wrote to The New York Times and on Instagram: "The presumption of innocent until proven guilty must not be replaced by 'Guilty by Accusation'". But I can't leave those women twisting in the wind.

"What I will not accept is responsibility for what I have not done", Simmons said in his statement. "As for me, I will step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning and above all to listening".
