Rivera: Panthers expect Aaron Rodgers 'on his game'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is finally ready to make his return to the football field.

Rodgers playing quarterback the way he knows how to play it is kind of a Packers-saving attempt, however.

So it's back to a normal week of preparation for the quarterback after making what McCarthy had considered great progress in rehab since getting hurt against Minnesota on October 15. By all accounts, his recovery went as smoothly as the Packers could have hoped.

As stated earlier, the weak link of this Packers team is the defense. "(Pat) McKenzie and our incredible training staff".

"Well, it was a group decision", Rodgers said.

"Well, we've talked about everything, and I'm confident knowing all the information. That's why I'm going to play". It's going to take getting out there, getting that first pass in, getting that first hit and then I'll probably settle in. It's important to check back on Thursday and Friday as more news comes in. "It was just waiting on the bone to be ready to play". He returned to practice on December 2 and is eligible to rejoin the 53-man roster on Friday, which means the two-time MVP could suit up for Green Bay's game at Carolina on Sunday.

But the return of Rodgers undoubtedly helps.

While the return of Rodgers gives Green Bay a lift, the Philadelphia Eagles will have to adjust to life without starting pivot Carson Wentz as they visit the New York Giants as 7.5-point favorites this week.

FAST FACTS: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has 1,230 passing yards (307.5 per game), 12 TDs and two interceptions in four career games at Carolina. The Vikes will need to run the table and hope that the Eagles drop at least one game with Foles playing, considering the fact that they're playing the Cowboys, Giants, and Raiders they may just do that. The Panthers won two years ago at home, 37-29.

"He looked good", said Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb.

Home field advantage will be huge this year and the Vikings do have a lot of tiebreakers over the other NFC playoff teams (excluding the Panthers, obviously).

The confidence should be high for running back Jonathan Stewart, and the team continues to show confidence in him.

The Panthers certainly expect Rodgers to be at or near his best. Green Bay will want to protect Rodgers and keep the Panthers honest.

"He has probably been throwing for four or five weeks", Carolina coach Ron Rivera said. "I think it's conducive this time of year". "We know what the magic number is".

"We script the beginning of the game". I've been out for seven games and out for a while. What he can do on the football field is very special.

He's aware of the risks. And all of Packer Nation can't wait to see what will happen next. I enjoy those expectations.

While this all means that the Vikings wouldn't be technically beating the best teams out there, I don't really care.

"It's going out and performing and doing your job".

"The strength and the flexibility came back the quickest", Rodgers said after practice Wednesday. "I'm coming back to play quarterback the way I know how to play it".

SERIES HISTORY: 14th regular-season meeting. Packers lead series, 8-5. The Panthers are coming off a six-sack effort against Minnesota. OLB Nick Perry, who missed last week's game with foot and shoulder injuries, practiced Wednesday.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Panthers LB Thomas Davis. ILB Jake Ryan did not practice due to an unknown injury.
