Manchester United and Barcelona were among the favourites to sign the playmaker and it now seems that Ozil has told his friends which club he would prefer to play in after his contract runs out at Arsenal.

Speaking in the lead-up to the West Ham game, Wenger dismissed suggestions that Ozil has received a final contract offer from the club, while insisting that the door is always open for both the German and Sanchez to stay beyond the summer.

The Germany global is in the final six months of his current contract, and there are rumours he is looking to leave the club either in the upcoming transfer window or at the end of the season.

A new deal worth £235,000 a week has already been turned down, with the Germany worldwide making it plain to friends he is eyeing a switch to United.

Ozil has made 13 appearances for the Gunners so far this season, scoring two goals and assisting a further five strikes.

"Negotiations are always going on with everybody", Wenger was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. Three months to go? "The door is always open and for the rest I can not tell you much more". However, the lure of playing under former manager Mourinho is proving to be too strong and with Mkhitaryan all but frozen out from United, Ozil has the chance to become the creative hub of Mourinho's expensively assembled Manchester United side.
