Long Island weather: Mostly sunny, high near 50 degrees

"From Wednesday all the way into the following weekend, high temperatures probably only around 30 degrees", said Mead.

As well as feeling cold, there is an increasing threat of sleet and snow showers feeding down across the country.

"Rain will clear on Thursday then turning much colder from the north with blustery showers developing".

Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 42 and winds 20 to 25 miles per hour with gusts as high as 36 miles per hour.

Very high fire danger on Tuesday afternoon will be caused by strong west to northwest winds and low humidity values, according to the weather service.

The Met Office said that tonight will be a mostly dry, cloudy night, with wind and sometimes heavy rain arriving in the north and Scotland on Tuesday.

Wednesday will be partly sunny, with a high in the low 50s, and a 60 percent chance of rain.

There is a possibility of isolated, minor coastal flooding during the day Monday for Long Island Sound along northern Nassau and northwestern Suffolk, the National Weather Service said. Expect a high of 55 and a low around 41.

Monday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

The rest of the week looks to be much closer to normal temperatures for December in Minnesota, with highs of 17, 18 and 19 degrees forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

There's a 30 percent chance of snow Saturday, which otherwise will be sunny with a high near 39 degrees, the NWS said.
