Lake effect snow arriving Tuesday night

But, we get some scattered snow and flurry action in for Tuesday into Wednesday, mostly lake enhanced, and that will show the arrival of some colder air again.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning continues for southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties from 7pm Wednesday to 7am Friday.

Flurries with risk of snow squalls and local blowing snow continue today and accumulate local amounts of 10 to 15 cm.

"It will stay in place for the next few hours and then make its way to the Southtowns after dark", Zaff said. "It will be one semi-continuous band between now and Friday".

Cold air moving across Lake Michigan will bring scattered snow showers to Mid-Michigan today.

You need several ingredients for lake effect snow.

The first round of snow will impact the Buffalo Metro area during the morning commute.

There will be a better chance for seeing snow locally over the weekend, as a weak area of low pressure swings through the region. The hot spot for the heaviest lake snow to occur will end up being east of a line between about Watertown and Sandy Creek across southeastern Jefferson and northern Lewis counties over the northern Tug Hill. A winter storm watch is also in effect for locations east of Lake Ontario, including Watertown, New York. This is not a big snow accumulation event, but the chances of snow look better. The northern half of the state sees better snow chances in our forecast this morning.

Locations from the coastal mid-Atlantic to parts of eastern New England, however, could see snow or a rain/snow mix Friday into Saturday.

Much colder air has moved into the state and will park here for a while. The overlap between those two ingredients will be dictated by the track of the low in relation to the coast, which is uncertain. If we include areas that just see snowflakes through the day, coverage of this event can increase to 70%.

Thursday night: Partly cloudy, low around 16.

Some light accumulations in the system's path are not out of the question, but details remain uncertain.
