Clifford missed Monday's win over the Magic with an unspecified illness and Silas filled in.

Clifford has served as the Hornets' head coach since the 2013-14 season and has guided the team to a 169-181 record and two appearances in the playoffs.

Charlotte Hornets head coach Steve Clifford is expected to be away from the team indefinitely as he is dealing with health concerns, according to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

"This head coaching stuff isn't easy". Associate head coach Stephen Silas filled in for Clifford.

"Today's been a lot of study", Silas said before Monday's game tipped off, according to Josh Robbins of The Orlando Sentinel.

Clifford has battled heart problems in the past, but a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press the issue was not a heart-related.

There is no timetable for Clifford to return to the team, and no details about what he may be dealing with were released by the team out of respect for his privacy.

The Hornets host Golden State Wednesday night.
