Earlier this week, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) released as a console launch exclusive on Xbox One in the Xbox Game Preview program, bringing the hottest multiplayer game of the year to console for the first time. It's safe to say you won't have trouble finding people to play against/with since the population is high on both PC and Xbox One. As other frustrated journalists have noted, the poor framerate, resolution, and lag disrupt the overall experience. "But with Microsoft directly involved and with the quality of the talent deployed on the title, we expected more". But PUBG on Xbox One represents a particularly egregious example of how it can go wrong.

As you can see from this technical test of the game, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has some known issues on the Xbox One/Xbox One X front, namely with some details and frame rate.

In celebration of its launch, Microsoft is giving away copies of the game to anyone who buys the new Xbox One X console. That means that development on the title is still ongoing and work in progress. So, before you click the "Purchase" button on that shiny new Xbox One X, make sure that retailer that you are buying from is participating in the promotion. Microsoft also today announced that every Xbox One X purchase from December 17 through December 31 will come with a free copy of PUBG in select regions.

If you're in the market for the $500 Xbox One X, yet still haven't heard anything about "PUBG" somehow, the game's premise is simple: You're one of 100 people dropped onto an abandoned island, unarmed, and your goal is survival.
