Chelsea had 17 shots on goal against Atleti - with Alvaro Morata claiming seven of those - but they only managed a draw at Stamford Bridge, meaning Roma's 1-0 win against Qarabag saw the Italians secure top spot in Group C.

The 30-year-old's contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season but he says that talks about a possible extension can wait until the summer.

"It was a nice run", he admitted. The first part of the season I chose to play nearly every game with [N'Golo] Kante and [Nemanja] Matic but in the second part of the season I think Cesc played a lot of the games. Real Madrid, the current champions, also finished second'.

'Of course I want to play every game.

"We have this really good team, a strong team".

Azpilicueta rarely exhibits signs of fatigue on the pitch, and he would not be drawn on whether he felt that he needed a rest.

"I think Cesc at the start of the last season did not play a lot, but I was very happy because through work he tried to change my mind and it happened", Conte told reporters.

The Blues saw their hopes of topping the group ended, and it seems that now they have to face a nightmare draw on Monday as the knockout stage draw takes place. Speaking ahead of Chelsea's heavyweight clash against Atletico Madrid in UEFA Champions League, Fabregas revealed he was anxious last season but chose to put his head down and win his place back in the squad.

Azpilicueta said: 'It's true that if you finish first, you play the second leg at home.

"Now it's time to focus on the Premier League, on the Carabao Cup and FA Cup that we will start in January, and when the Champions League is back in February, we will see how we are". It's a bit of a difference but, honestly, when you go into the last 16 of the Champions League, you have to face big, big teams and we have to show our level.
