Wenger, speaking ahead of tomorrow's visit of BATE Borisov in the final Europa League group game, shrugged off the claim however. Mourinho accused Wenger of gamesmanship and intentionally misleading his opponent.

Wenger had ruled the France forward out of Saturday's visit of Mourinho's Manchester United only to name him in the starting line-up.

"I thought he wouldn't play but in the end he could, what did you want me to do?"

"If I am a player, and I think with what we produced, we have a huge potential, and we lose the game".

"What did you want me to do, to leave him at home?"

It's all been fairly quiet in regards to managers having a go at each other in the Premier League lately - especially when you consider all the massive ego's now plying their trade in England's top-flight; Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Antonio, Mauricio Pochettino and of course the old stalwart Arsene Wenger.

'He had tests on Friday morning and we thought he wouldn't play.

"But, he tried and he played".

The Gunners, who last won the trophy in 2003-04 and have three more points than rivals Spurs, are 15 points behind leaders Manchester City after five defeats in their first 15 games.

In his post match interview last weekend, Mourinho took multiple swipes at Arsenal, calling the team out for alleged diving and Laurent Koscielny in particular.

Wenger's side had 33 shots on goal but came undone with Antonio Valencia's goal and Jesse Lingard's double either side of Alexandre Lacazette's strike.

"My medical department managed to recover Matic from a "maybe" to a "yes" [after an injury] but the Arsenal medical department managed to recover a player [Lacazette] from a "no" to a complete 90 minutes". I really hope they remain at the club but, if they do, they need to show the same commitment to help Arsenal to a Champions League spot'.

The Spaniard is a doubt for the Manchester derby on Sunday, but Mourinho suggested that only he is telling the truth about injuries and that Pep Guardiola and Wenger aren't to be trusted.
