Singapore will be the first country in Southeast Asia, and 16th globally, to launch Amazon Prime. Finally, to use Prime Now you'll need to be a member of Amazon's $99-a-year Prime service, which beside delivery perks also offers access to streaming movies, TV shows, music, and more. While subscribers will get access to same day deliveries via Prime Now, it will only apply to some 5 million items from the global selection, compared to over 50 million in the U.S., with free shipping if they spend S$60 ($45).

Now Amazon, which had been offering its two-hour delivery service Prime Now for free on a S$40 ($29.70) minimum purchase in Singapore without any membership fee, will start charging S$8.99 per month after a limited introductory period.

But take note, Amazon will also have similar delivery times for some of its Handmade items as many are listed as taking a number of days to create and so aren't available for fast delivery.

Today, 6 November, Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Prime in Singapore.

Streaming service Amazon Prime Video and gaming subscription service Twitch Prime will be bundled as part of the membership. And this is just the beginning.

While benefits are only restricted to the mobile app, Ghani said that more will be added in the future for Prime membership in Singapore.

Compared to the US' Prime, though, Singapore's version is lacking.

Last minute shoppers can order gifts from Amazon Handmade Artisans for delivery until 11:59 p.m. on Christmas Eve, the company also said. Our attempts to order items from the Amazon US website itself didn't seem to include or display the benefits of our Amazon Prime Singapore membership.

This comes a day after free shipping options to Singapore for qualifying items over US$125 (S$168) were reported to be no longer applicable. Products include a wide selection of top brands such as Leap Frog, Rubbermaid, Zojirushi, BCB Generation, The Children's Space, Pet Safe, Rebecca Minkoff, and Melissa and Doug.

Twitch Prime: Free in-game loot, like exclusive characters, boosts, and skins, in games including Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Origins, and Digital Extreme's Warframe, plus full games from indie developers.

Amazon.com Inc. will offer last-minute delivery of pottery, necklaces, candles and other handmade products ordered as late as Christmas Eve in nine USA cities, looking to win orders from competing arts-and-crafts marketplace Etsy Inc.
