Ronaldo, 32, helped Madrid to a La Liga and Champions League double a year ago and is favourite to win a fifth Ballon d'Or when France Football unveils the 2017 victor on Thursday.

Sergio Ramos has moved to play down speculation that he has fallen out with Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo had won the "Best" award from Federation Internationale de Football Association last October after he helped Real Madrid win the Spanish League title and the 2017 Champions League. Speaking to TVE, the Spain captain claimed: "Nothing has ever happened between him and me". Just last season he had a phenomenal campaign. "We must remain calm because, even if we did not have a great start to the season, we can still fight for every title".

Addressing a press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Zidane said, "It's true, when we look at their statistics, they're fantastic. A few days ago, he won his second "The Best" and this week he is going to win his fifth Ballon d'Or".

"I think he should win the Ballon d'Or because his year was incredible".

"It's surprising to see the amount of goals they've scored, actually".

"He has big shoulders and when things don't go right for him, he's always found a way to put things right".

Real are guaranteed to finish second in Group H behind Tottenham Hotspur, while Dortmund need to win to secure third spot in the group and a place in the Europa League as they are locked on two points with fourth-placed APOEL Nicosia but have a superior head-to-head record.
