It is shocking statements like these that have irked the Bollywood stars to no limit.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had on Saturday written to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to ensure that "Padmavati" is not released without necessary changes to the film.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that he will not hurt the Rajput sentiments by releasing the movie.

The protesters are apparently unhappy about speculation that the film will include a romantic liaison between Rajput queen Padmavati, also known as Rani Padmini, and the 13th and 14th century Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji. "We believe in freedom of speech and expression but any foul play with our great culture is not tolerated", the Chief Minister said. We respect their feelings and with elections on the anvil, the state government does not want any controversy.

Rupani also said that the ban was not only limited to the state assembly polls which will be held in December "but till the controversies subside".

He further asserted the decision to prohibit the screening of Padmavati was taken keeping in mind the law and order situation in the poll-bound state. BJP leader Surajpal is heard as saying in the viral video.

Joshi told PTI that the movie should be shown to historians and the descendants of the erstwhile royal families, who trace their lineage to Padmavati, before release. "It has asked them to submit a report before November 30", BJP leader Bhagat Singh Koshyari, who heads the panel, said.

"How come our I&B Minister or our most popular Hon'ble PM (according to PEW) are maintaining stoic silence".

The Patna Sahib MP did not spare Bollywood top guns either. Is she the president or the prime minister?

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in a video appeal earlier this month, had stated that there was no such sequence in the movie and he was careful in depicting the "Rajput honour and dignity". The film release has been delayed and the new date of the venture hitting the screens will be announced shortly.

The film is in the eye of a storm following protests from conservative groups over alleged tampering of historical facts, a contention Bhansali has denied repeatedly.
