It's been awhile since Splatoon 2 had a substantial update. The first free update hits November 23 and adds a new stage for Salmon Run, new gear and new hairstyle options for Inklings, as well as many other features, with additional new battle stages rolling out beginning November 24.

The update will also allow players to change gear between battles in Regular, Ranked, and Splatfast Battles, and the level cap is also getting bumped up to 99.

Splatoon 2 was originally released on July 21, 2017, and is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Retailers across the nation are gearing up for Black Friday.

At some point in the near future, a new stage called Shellendorf Institute, which appears to be a museum of sorts, will be added, alongside returning stages Walleye Warehouse and Arowana Mall. Salmonid Smokeyard will be added to the map rotation as soon as the update is live. Teamwork is required to use the fan lifts effectively.

If you love collecting all that fashionable clothing in the game to deck out your squidkid, you'll love the 140 new pieces of gear that will be added to the game this week.

New Battle Music: Two new bands have been gaining popularity in Inkopolis! "This new content significantly expands the game and provides a great value for players, regardless of whether they purchased it on launch day or have it on their holiday gift lists".

New Hair Styles: Both the female and male characters will each have an additional two new hairstyles to choose from.

Nintendo is also upping the level cap within the game. No worries, you'll have even higher to aim for now when this update raises the max level to 99.

What's Coming in the December Splatoon 2 Update? Players can also add fun filters to their images. After downloading the update, gear can be swapped out without leaving the match room, making it quicker to get back to splatting.

Clam Blitz: In Clam Blitz, competing Inklings are tasked with collecting clams scattered around the stage. Don't worry if this seems to simple, baskets will be protected by barriers that need to be destroyed as well as the opportunity to splat your opponents and claim their clams as your own. The first team to 100 wins the round. You'll have to collect 10 clams to earn Power Clams strong enough to break through the barrier in the first place.
