Still, it shouldn't be fortgoten that Mané was fit enough to play for Liverpool before the break.

The attacker played his first match in nearly a month as Liverpool beat West ham 4-1 in their last outing.

Mane returned to action way ahead of schedule and played 70 minutes of the tie in East London where he provided an assist for fellow pace merchant Mohamed Salah.

Alarm bells have begun to ring at Liverpool after key man Sadio Mane returned early from global duty after "feeling his old injury" to his hamstring.

It's been confirmed on Monday morning that Sadio Mane has been released from global duty by Senegal.

Liverpool host Southampton on Saturday, and no doubt LFC Manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that this latest setback for Sadio Mane turns out to only be something very minor.

A statement reads: "The Senegalese Football Federation informs the national and global opinion that, following the match South Africa against Senegal on Friday, November 10, 2017, in Polokwane, the player Sadio Mane was slightly felt (sic) from his old injury".

The club also sent a medic off with him to monitor his situation, and there is no suggestion the Senegal national team coaches or training staff did anything that would have made a re-aggravation of Mané's injury more likely.

Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne have all swapped the Saints for the Reds in recent seasons.
