Denmark has qualified for the 2018 World Cup, and Christian Eriksen played the role of the hero.

"It was very good, especially when we went 1-0 behind, we didn't get stressed", Hareide told Sky Sports.

"I think we improved our game a lot and of course Ireland let us play a bit more, which we did".

And it looked as if the luck of the Irish was shining as Brighton defender Shane Duffy fired the home side ahead after just six minutes.

Eriksen scored two more goals, showing his complete superiority on the pitch, suggesting that Ireland's lack of a World Class player in this encounter left them out of the World Cup.

Hareide said: "The whole team did well, played well and scored a lot of goals and we are in Russian Federation".

"The disappointment is obviously very, very strong tonight because we haven't been able to do it, but I have to commend the players on getting this far".

"We were chasing the game and needed goals to get back into the game but as we were trying to press, Denmark took advantage".

Denmark booked their ticket to Russian Federation in style in the second leg in Dublin, running away with a tie that was in the balance after a goalless first game in Copenhagen.

"It's hard to rank, but we saw (in Tottenham's Champions League victory) against Real Madrid he is probably one of the best players in his position in Europe at the moment". That was why we created so many chances and were risky when we had the ball.

"I'm obviously delighted for Denmark but I'm gutted for the Irish".

The midfield maestro, who had missed a couple of decent chances in the goalless playoff first leg, made no mistake in the Dublin return as his treble put the Irish to the sword. "It's a big thing and I'm very happy about it". "We've been fighting for so long together after the two play-off games, which were very hard, but we got the result and we can be very pleased and I'm looking very much forward to World Cup".
