The protesters demanded that the film should not be released, a senior police official said.

The movie Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is already a craze among fans and haters alike, even before its release.

The Supreme Court has refused to ban the film, stating that the censor board will give the green signal after following adequate guidelines.

Andhare, who is the Chief Operating Officer at Viacom18 Motion Pictures, said in an interview with IANS that he is happy to dispel any doubts around the film once the certification has been obtained.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has added a totally new dimension to the controversy over the movie Padmavati by saying that it was funded from Dubai and is a part of an global conspiracy to defame Hindus.

One BJP member has demanded that Bhansali be "tried for treason" and that CBFC should not certify the movie, while some want the movie's release date to be delayed in view of the Gujarat elections, and then there are others who feel the movie must be shown to historians before it is given wings to fly.

"The government must ban the release of film. If the film gets censor certificate, it must be right-minded", he said. The argument was that this committee can determine whether the film contained any scenes that lowered the dignity of Rani/Sati Padmavati. "All our distributors are with us". The movie will release in 3D as well!

Joshi also recently shared that the CBFC fully respect Bhansali "as an individual and artist". Deepika Padukone will be seen playing the titular role Rani Padmini aka Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor a Rajput warrior - Raja Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh the menacing Delhi Sultanate ruler- Sultan Alauddin Khilji in the upcoming historical drama.
