For instance, it seems likely that, like "Pokemon Go", you'll be asked to create an avatar.

Details on the game are scant, but it expected to allow players to blend the real world around them with the fantasy of J.K. Rowling's wizard-laden universe. It's safe to say that Niantic's efforts with this title were very successful.

It will be titled Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and you'll be able to play while by exploring the real world around you.

The news comes after a rumor surfaced past year that Niantic was developing a Harry Potter AR game - supposedly dubbed "Harry Potter Go" - but that was debunked as a hoax.

Little is now known about the game, but it's expected to rely heavily on augmented reality technology, as Pokemon Go does. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will nearly certainly borrow many elements from Pokemon Go, which has players exploring the real world to find Pokemon and use them in gym battles. It's unclear what the game's going to be about and what the gameplay mechanics are going to be.

We've reached out to Niantic and Warner Bros. representatives for comment on Niantic's rumored Harry Potter game. The game still has an active user base of 65 million people each month, is updated frequently, and has established a regular presence on the list of the 20 most lucrative apps.
