Samuel caught 5 passes on 7 targets for 45 yards - all season-highs - before exiting to the locker room.

The Panthers announced the second-round pick will undergo season-ending ankle surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.

Samuel will miss the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle Monday against the Dolphins, David Newton reports.

Head coach Ron Rivera said things weren't very optimistic about Samuel's ankle before an MRI Tuesday afternoon.

Offensive coordinator Mike Shula said Samuel will be replaced by committee, referring to Kaelin Clay, Russell Sheppard and even running back Christian McCaffrey.

Panthers second-year wide receiver Damiere Byrd is eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 13 versus the New Orleans Saints. "There's some guys on the team that would say yeah", Shula said. He had 3 grabs for 23 yards against Atlanta on November 5 and followed it up with 5 catches for 45 yards against Miami on Monday night before the injury.
