Jude Law is headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor will star opposite Brie Larson in the upcoming Captain Marvel. We don't know who he's playing yet or anything (though Variety says he'll be a "mentor of sorts" who helps Carol work through her newly-established powers), but let's set that aside for a moment to acknowledge how truly excellent this film's cast is gonna be. Variety reports Law is in negotiations to join the film, which will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

Carol Danvers was an Air Force pilot who was infused with alien Kree DNA after touching some of the Kree's enhanced technology. In his secret identity "Walter Lawson", Mar-Vell befriended Carol Danvers, and he was present during the accident that transformed her.

Law also recently joined another major franchise, the Harry Potter movies, taking on the role of young Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. It would make sense for Marvel to keep Law's exact role in the film's story under wraps for now, considering the cosmic ramifications of introducing Mar-Vell, but with Captain Marvel set to shoot early next year more information should soon come to light. She later adopted the Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel codenames in his honor. He finds his way back to Earth, where he dons the mantle of Captain Marvel, an alien savior/superhero who gets into some really weird stuff.
