A total of 14 terrorists were killed in the aftermath of the tunnel collapse, including two senior Islamic Jihad field commanders.

The Israel Defense Forces blew up the tunnel, which originated in the Gazan city of Khan Younis and crossed into Israeli territory, near Kibbutz Kissufim, on October 30.

Abbas, who heads the Fatah party, also said his faction was working hard to implement the recently signed reconciliation deal with rival Gaza-based terror group Hamas in order to achieve Arafat's "dream... for freedom, sovereignty and independence on our Palestinian national soil".

Israel said it is holding the bodies of five Palestinians killed in last month's tunnel attack in Gaza.

"There are those who still amuse themselves these days by trying to renew attacks against Israel", Netanyahu remarked at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday.

The IDF Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Major-General Yoav Mordechai sends a stern message to the Gaza terrorist regime. "We will react forcefully to whoever tries to attack us or attacks us from any arena".

"In any case, we hold Hamas responsible for any attack against us originating from Gaza or organised there", he said of the group that runs the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestinian media, Hamas encouraged Islamic Jihad to abstain from retaliating both in order to prevent further escalation with Israel and to prevent the reconciliation talks it has been conducting with the Palestinian Authority from falling apart.

Israel is building in settlements around the West Bank, where the Palestinians want to establish a state. Take control of events for you will be blamed [for what follows].

It was a rare flare-up along the tense border that has remained mostly quiet since a 2014 Israel-Hamas war.
