Incident on London's Oxford Street with armed police on the scene

Oxford Circus station has been evacuated with reports that armed police are on the scene.

Police have advised people to take shelter inside after shots were fired at an underground station in London.

People are screaming and running trying to escape the area.

British Transport Police said officers were on the scene responding to an incident but gave no further details. The station is now closed, please avoid the area at this time. "Officers are on scene", British Transport Police said.

Police said that at this stage there are not any casualties.

The area is a crowded shopping district in the center of the city.

"Armed Police were running up Argyll Street and now we're locked in French Connection".

Police added that trains are bypassing the station while they investigate.

First calls were that there was an incident on Oxford Street, they are talking with BTP and checking Oxford Street station.
