The Buick SUV was speeding down Interstate-94 in Harper Woods when the driver tried to pass another auto, lost control, careened across the lanes, and ended up striking the bridge around 1 a.m., the Associated Press and the Detroit Free-Press reported. The SUV crossed three lanes of traffic and struck the bridge. They were not wearing seat-belts at the time of the collision. Police initially said the child was two and the adults were as old as 25.

Police said the young child was buckled into the vehicle seat, and only suffered minor injuries.

"Alesia was the best mom that anybody could as for as a young mother, I taught her right", said Lolonda. "The other issue is that onramp right there, people don't merge well".
