General Motors can produce great vehicles when it wants to. The auto was discontinued after 1995, production totaling fewer than 7,000 units.

The rest seem to be mostly also rans in their respective category. That's because the follow up to the already insane Z06 will boast a lot more. As of now no zero to 60 or 1/4 mile times are available. In addition, the powertrain also gets an upgraded crankshaft, dry sump lubrication, and a new 4-inch throttle body.

Until then, have a peek below! Indeed, the King has returned.

THE CHEVROLET Corvette family has a new patriarch, with the new ZR1 revealed with an almighty supercharged V8 roar.

The new LT5 V8 makes most of its extra power gains over the old LT4 thanks to a 52-percent larger displacement supercharger. GM's first dual-fuel-injection system, which employs primary direct injection and supplemental port injection, helps the LT5 achieve its record output.

The V8 is paired to either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic and sends power to the rear wheels. It's the first time an automatic transmission has been offered in a ZR1.

Two rear wing designs are available for the 2019 Corvette ZR1, each tied directly to the chassis just like with the Corvette C7.R racing auto.

For example, the new ZR1 has a redesigned front end with huge air intakes to feed four new radiators, which brings the total heat exchanger count to 13, according to Chevrolet.

The engine sits underneath what Chevrolet calls a "halo hood" which features a carbon fibre two-piece bonnet bulge. With this wing, the vehicle won't be able to attain its estimated top speed of 336 km/h (210 mph), but will allow recording quicker lap times around a track.

"As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1's design supports its capability in every way", said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. This unit generates a maximum of 755PS/969Nm and has a claimed top speed of 338kmph.

All ZR1's also feature a downforce-enhancing front underwing. The package also includes a front bumper air splitter with carbon fibre end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer tires as well as specific chassis and suspension tuning. Both wings are bolted directly to the chassis just like on a C7.R race auto, for strength and stability.

A new Sebring Orange Design Package will make it virtually impossible to ignore the new Corvette ZR1.

A further option, the "Sebring Orange Design Package", adds orange accents as well as orange seat belts and stitching combined with the Sebring Orange Tintcoat paint.

The new design package complements the Corvette ZR1's tradition of offering maximum performance with refinement and design distinction.

Speaking of the interior, the ZR1 comes as standard with leather-trimmed seats, and can be specified with sueded microfibre inserts or even Napa leather upholstery together with heating with ventilation. Optionally, customers can fit their new 2019 ZR1 with heated and ventilated Nappa leather seats, a carbon-fiber adorned steering wheel and Performance Data Recorder, among other things.

Chevy says the 2019 Corvette ZR1 will go on-sale next spring.
