Arsenal appoint Mislintat as head of recruitment

The Gunners are hoping to appoint Sven Mislintat as de facto head of recruitment - overseeing the club's scouting and recruitment alongside current chief scout Steve Rowley.

Kagawa, for example, was signed for just £300k from Cerezo Osaka in 2010, but was sold for £12.5m to Manchester United just two years later. He has worked tremendously for Dortmund.

The Gunners are said to be looking to modernize their approach to transfers, and Mislintat has been identified as the ideal man to begin the process.

Despite all the good work he's put in, Mislintat was sidelined by BVB's previous manager Thomas Tuchel.

Mislintat is expected to arrive at the Emirates Stadium along with Dortmund chief Michael Zorc.

"Sven will stay at Borussia Dortmund, and that's it", Zorc told Funke Media group back in August. Also, as Scott covered recently, Rowley apparently stepped down over frustration with Arsenal's transfer dealings. "Identifying and developing talent is a core part of our philosophy and Sven has an outstanding track record over many years", said Wenger on Arsenal's website.

Arsene Wenger added: "We are delighted that Sven is joining us. We look forward to him taking our existing recruitment approach forwards".

"We would like to thank Steve Rowley for all his hard work over many years for the club".

Arsenal's recruitment has often been a sore spot when compared with their rivals' efforts in recent years, but if Mislintat can help them bring in players of the same calibre he brought in at Dortmund, his appointment could be a significant step toward domestic and perhaps even European success.

"We'd have liked to have kept him, he is a valued member of our staff".
